Ste. Marie Again Sues Supervisors Wildomar resident Gerard Ste.
Marie has again filed suit against the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
Ste. Marie this time contends that Article 16, Section 6, of the state
Constitution prohibits the county from transferring money to cities without
guarantees that those cities would use it to fund particular services. The
Supervisors agreed on a plan in July 2007 to pay the two prospective cities
of Wildomar and Menifee Valley if incorporation efforts are successful, for
fire protection and services it would no longer have to provide directly to
their residents. Ste. Marie contends the state constitution prohibits such
payments.
When contacted regarding this latest lawsuit Supervisor's Bob
Buster and Jeff Stone commented that the suit is nonsense, and that it
would be deemed frivolous. The County would be paying the funds whether or not
the communities incorporate for those services regardless of cityhood
status.
Ste. Marie has long challenged supervisorial decisions in
court as they relate to the community of Wildomar.
Wildomar
residents will vote on cityhood on the February 5, 2008 ballot. Menifee Valley
residents could vote as early as June 2008.
